Boston Metro

The Metro Boston Update column covers apparatus deliveries, assignments, and refurbished equipment operated by the Fire Departments within the Interstate 95 (Route 128) belt highway around the Greater Boston area. The main focus of the column are the 35 cities, towns, including the MASSPORT Fire Department at Logan Airport, that make up the mutual aid network called METRO-FIRE (Boston is covered in its own column). These departments operate 115 engine companies, 58 ladder companies, 8 heavy rescues, 13 FD based EMS ambulances, 6 ARFF units, and many specialized units.

What started out as a small black and white publication has become the best source in the fire service for color apparatus photography, as well as the most informative source for news of the country's biggest departments, and the latest apparatus trends throughout the entire country.
