The Metro New Jersey Update column reports on all news of
apparatus deliveries, rebuilds, reassignments, and newly placed orders in the
large, mostly urban area of New Jersey that is geographically adjacent to New
York City. Generally, this area includes the counties of Bergen, Essex, Hudson,
Middlesex, Morris, and Union. Fire departments within this area range from
single station volunteer units to major urban departments while the area
protected also varies from rural residential to older industrial cities. A
large percentage of this area is protected by career departments that also vary
in size from small single station departments to some of the largest
departments in the northeast. Among some of the major departments covered are
Bayonne, East Orange, Elizabeth, Hackensack, Hoboken, Jersey City, Linden,
Newark, Paterson, Plainfield, Union, and North Hudson Regional. There are also
several airports and non-municipal departments within this area, and the type of apparatus in service varies widely.
